This is a very popular hold following delivery. This is a great choice because it keeps the infant off mothers abdomen which may be tender related to childbirth or tubal ligation. This position enables the mother to have a better view of the latch making it easier to correct any problems.
Positioning Tips
After finding a comfortable place to sit position the baby with his legs under your arm and head near your breast. Support his head by placing your fingers on his neck and shoulders. Use pillows to elevate the baby to the level of your nipple. You never want to have to support the baby’s entire weight throughout the feeding. It is very important that you be able to relax during the feeding as well. If you feel like he is pushing on the chair behind you bend his knees so his legs go up the back of the chair rather than placing his feet against the chair. Remember to watch proper alignment and latch.(LLL p.52)
