Caring for Mom
NUTRITION
Be sure to include plenty of fluids, at least 8 glasses of water a day.
You will need an extra 500 calories per day.
THINGS TO AVOID
Caffeine and nicotine- can make baby irritable. Smoking before nursing can inhibit letdown.
Alcohol and drugs are not recommended. They will go through your breast milk and affect your baby. Check with your physician before taking any medications.
REST
Sleep when baby sleeps!! The importance of rest cannot be stressed enough- it is essential to your success.
BREAST CARE
Keep breasts/nipples clean and dry. No soap or alcohol to nipples.
Rub a small amount of breastmilk into nipples and allow to air dry.
